Adding to our Family

July 26, 2010

(From L to R: Bilke, Jane, Nicole and Gwen – the boys were trying to get into the chocolate she brought them. I stopped them. I am the “mean one.” I’m also ok with that.)

Bilke arrived on Friday!

Until Wednesday, I am the proud host mom to two au pairs. My kids love it. (And Ed and I have realized we’ve moved back to man-to-man defense. So much easier than zone defense.)

Bilke has come all the way from Kiel, Germany, on the Baltic Sea, to joing our family for a year.  Nicole spent the weekend showing her around and introducing her to other au pairs. It has also helped the kids with the transition, as they have seen Nicole and Bilke having fun together and with them.

Welcoming Bilke into our family and home has reminded me of just how wonderful hosting is. My kids are so excited to get to know her (and eat the chocolate she brought for them). They have been telling her about all the fun things they want to do over the next year.

Ed and I are also excited to share our culture with her, and learn about hers. Apparently she likes to bake. Which is great. I like to eat baked goods. See what a good match this is?
